I was going to leave them for later, but a recent - and very good, don't get me wrong - post has brought it to my attention that I really need to describe a bit more about the nefarious enemies that are out to destroy Atlantis and the whole of Terran society.
First of all, as you can glean from the timeline, the Divini are all biologically and genetically modified to a heavy degree. There are three main types of Divini, as classified by Terran Intelligence:
Drones: Hive minded creatures created for the sole purpose of warfare. These come in a multitude of different shapes and sizes, always with heavy natural armor, usually an ultradense form of chitin or enamel, and most come with natural blades, teeth, acid sprays, or the ability to generate virulent or mutagenic viruses on command (one of the Divini's favorite forms of attack, and one of the things nanomachines were originally intended to counter). Drones can be mass produced by the millions in any Hive, and can be made from the enemy as well through a virus they each carry - should a Terran soldier's nanomachines fail, this is what they become. Many also have weapons grafted onto their bodies, usually radiation or acid weapons, though more advanced 'models' carry projectile weapons ranging from chemical based firearms to rail cannon.
Lords: These tend to be much larger, and are more capable of independent thought - indeed, some are incredibly smart and were designed that way. These creatures serve as the officers, in a way, as they direct the movements of the Drone hordes. The Drone Queens which spawn the hordes are also of this type. Another main characteristic of a Lord is its ability to alter its own genome on the fly, and to accelerate its own mutations, making these extraordinarily versitile, and because of their insane regeneration rate, very difficult to kill. Again, like drones, these come in as many different shapes and sizes as the twisted minds of their creators can come up with.
True Divini: These are all either descendents of the original Cataclysm survivors, or in some cases the survivors themselves. Many of these retain their human form to an extent, though each has modified themself to fit their own vision of perfection. Divini can modify their own genomes on the fly to almost any degree, and have even more advanced technology for healing and mutating themselves than the Lords do. True Divini can only be killed - so it is said - by completely obliterating their forms, as even Divini with entire heads and torsos blown off have been known to regenerate. These are exceptionally rare and have only been seen by Terran eyes a handful of times - always with horrific results. Alain Vircyn received the Terran Cross in his third year of the Marines for killing one, and his squad remains the only squad in a century to have come out of such an encounter while retaining operational unit strength.
This is all very general but I hope it gives you guys an idea. If anyone wants to know anything about them beyond this just send me a PM or IM and I'll be happy to explain, but believe me, you'll know more about these than you wanted to before too long...
