Background Information
Character History: Born to parents from extraordinarily different backgrounds, his mother was an aerospace engineer and his father was a botanist, Marcus was having knowledge stuffed into him from an early age. His father and paternal grandfather taught him everything he knows about surviving in the wilderness, knowledge that has been passed down through the family for many generations. In addition, his grandfather also arranged for him to undergo martial arts training, at which he did well, though he wasn’t a prodigy.
Throughout his schooling, he did well, but managed to mostly make it through unnoticed until his graduation, when he was named an honor graduate. He entered college, and quickly earned his degree in aerospace engineering. His mother was especially proud of this, as his thesis for his degree was improvements and refinements on a reconnaissance aircraft that she had originally designed.
He entered the Air Force immediately following his graduation from college, and became a pilot. He proved to be a ‘fast-burner’, earning promotions quickly through both his leadership and piloting skills. He made quite the name for himself as a pilot, often leading his squadron into combat, and he would always be the last to land. Whenever one of his fellow pilots was downed, he would fly recon and close air support for the recovery effort. He earned his callsign one night when flying a routine patrol when a small Divini strike force attempted to attack Haven. He and his wingman first contacted their base, and then began strafing runs. Each time he set up on one of his runs, he came in from a different direction and angle of attack, and he used all of his munitions judiciously, causing maximum enemy casualties with each run. Once they returned to base, his wingman remarked about this tactic to their flight commander, who immediately gave him his callsign: “He flies like a wraith, huh?”
Interestingly, he was originally believed to only have minor telekinesis when he was a child, though he constantly surprised the telepaths that he went to school with, much to their consternation. It wasn’t until he was in his mid-teens that one of the specialists researching psionic abilities figured out that Marcus had the ability to shut off his mind from telepaths and empaths. Only a month afterwards, Marcus demonstrated the other side of his mental abilities. He was walking home from school one day when he saw several non-psychic children beating up a young girl. Incensed by this, he first tried the diplomatic route, but when they turned on him, he fought back. By sheer numbers they beat him back, until he landed near a power conduit. When one of them tried to hit him, Marcus simply touched the conduit, and soon a turquoise staff made of energy formed in his hand, which he used to drive off the bullies. He didn’t see the girl anywhere afterwards, and let the staff dissipate. Interestingly, the bullies didn’t feel any electric shocks when they were struck by the staff, and they didn’t have any electrical burns, either. His parents didn’t know the whole story until a few days later when the father of one of the bullies came by, and he was very excited about Marcus’s ability.
The man soon became a family friend, and helped Marcus’s mother develop Talon, a device that Marcus could wear on his wrists that could amplify his body’s bioelectric field enough for him to use his ability whenever necessary. With a little extra research, which Marcus reluctantly participated in, they found out that whenever he manipulated the energy, it assumed a form similar to plasma, though the outer edge of anything he formed was a solid. He also figured out how to create a miniaturized particle beam using his ability, though it takes several moments, and a lot of concentration, for him to create the blast, and the beams he creates are nowhere near as powerful as those made by weapon systems. Nobody knows of this aspect of his ability, though, as he always goes well outside the confines of the city’s sensors to practice the technique and improve his aim. Currently, it takes him about three seconds to create the blast, and he has to rest his mind for about five seconds in between shots.
Area of Expertise: Aerospace engineering, Piloting, Survival, Close Quarters Combat
Position Applying For: Air Force Colonel (New Avalon)
Secondary Position: Chief Engineering Officer (New Avalon)
Why do you want this position and what would make your character good for it:
Personal Weaponry and Other Equipment: Wood/metal band around each wrist (Talon; nanotechnology-infused device custom-made to amplify his bioelectric field around his hands; always worn), standard-issue sidearm (worn on right thigh, only worn when on duty)
Nanite Modifications: Air Force standard plus agility-enhancement
Psionics (If applicable): Moderate Telekinesis (primarily energy manipulation, his ‘true’ telekinesis is only minor, though still potent), Extraordinarily resistant to Telepathy/Empathy (closed mind, when he wants)
