Terran cities (Other than Paradise and Atlantis, which are different) consist of one massive central dome over a shaft up to a mile deep, with rings every hundred feet or so all the way to the bottom - in essence, a layered underground city. Tunnels and underground spaces stretch out from the main shaft, for mining and the like, though such activities are carefully monitored for impact on the environment. They are built this way to avoid sprawl and taking up space for forests on the surface, and contain underground fields for cattle, hydroponic and traditional orchards, and are fully self-sufficient in almost all respects.
Just a basic list of cities and where they are
Paradise: Antarctica
New Detroit: Just south of the ruins of Old Detroit, North America
Amazonia: Amazon Rainforest, South America
Haven: Arizona
Atlantis: Beneath the Northern Polar Ice Cap, this is by far the largest city, with space for more than two billion ((more than the entire Terran population currently)), the Great Spire, and a shielding system so powerful it could theoretically hold out indefinitely against any attack, because the Spire itself acts as a titanic inertial sump. Atlantis also serves as the Capital City, and the main research and military base of the whole planet.
Brazil City: Just off the coast of the Atlantic, near the ruins of the capital
Aerie City: High in the Appalachian mountains, in what would have been Virginia
Starlight: The major exception to the general rule, Starlight is a six mile diameter orbital station, in geosynchronous orbit over the magnetic North Pole. It has a large civilian population, but like the floating cities it serves primarily as a launch platform for military operations, being the heaquarters for the Air Force, and the Army and Marine orbital drop commando units.
Gaia City: near the edge of the Yellowstone Caldera - one of the oldest of the cities, built as a memorial originally, then becoming one of the centers of the Order.
New London: take a guess
Valhalla: The second floating city ever constructed - built for battle after the loss of the unarmed Avalon - launched more than a hundred years ago, it remains one of the most powerful mobile fortresses in existence. It has a population of almost 5 million military and civillian workers, and houses primarily Army and Air Force personnel, along with the obvious Naval men and women.
Lotus: The third floating city and also built for combat, Lotus is almost entirely an airbase, with eight piers, each with massive runways for launching fighter and transport craft.
New Avalon: The fourth and most advanced of the floating cities, New Avalon is designed not just to house troops and weapons, but to move in close and even participate in the assault itself. New Avalon carries the most advanced weapons and shielding systems ever built, and the 2nd Marine Operational Detatchment, including the 501st Marine Recon battalion, also known as Lambda, the most decorated unit of the entire war. New Avalon also houses three of the advanced amphibious attack submarines, a full Titan compliment, and a wing of Phoenix fighter-bombers, plus air transport for the Marine units.
